LINGLE – The Lingle Town Council has sponsored the purchase of a mosaic mural in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States. The mural is an eight-foot by eight-foot collection of tiles that, when assembled, come together to create a lasting piece of public art for the town. The mural is a part of the USA 250 Mural Project.
“Students, senior center participants, local residents, and town council members will paint 350 individual tiles,” Councilwoman Shelly Duncan said. “Up close, each tile will show an individual painting. Together, the tiles’ colors will form the larger mural.”
The mural, once completed, will depict a scenic landscape with trees, green grass, lively fauna and flora and a deer standing in the lower left corner of the image. The mural will then be placed on the south side of the Senior Friendship Center, 205 Main Street. The design was created by the USA 250 Mural Project.
According to muralmosaic.com, “This hands-on project invites everyone. Families, children, seniors and local businesses can contribute their creative DNA to a masterpiece that will stand as a proud reminder of this historic celebration.”
The Lingle Town Council donated kits to the Lingle-Fort Laramie schools to be completed by students in the art program. The remaining kits are available for pick-up by residents of the Town of Lingle at Lingle Town Hall, 220 Main Street. There is no charge for a tile kit.
Each kit includes instructions and supplies to create your own personal masterpiece. Participants are asked to follow the kit’s instructions to ensure the final painting fits into the mural’s mosaic design. Each tile has an 80-and-20 rule. This rule requires 80% of the tile’s painted surface to be colored with a certain color group. The remaining 20% of the tile is to be painted with the remaining color group. The instructions provided with the kits explain the 80-and-20 rule in greater detail. Each kit comes with the paint required to complete the tile.
Once completed, residents are asked to bring the tile back to Town Hall, so they can be sorted and arranged for final placement.
